A chasen does what no spoon or electric frother can: it suspends every particle of matcha evenly through the water, releasing its sweetness and depth without bitterness or clumps. The more prongs, the finer the foam, which is why 120 is the choice for a silky, cloud-like finish.
Shaped from a single piece of natural bamboo, each whisk is quietly unique. Pair it with our chasen holder and matcha bowl for a complete, beautiful setup, or give it as a gift to someone beginning their own ritual.
How to use: Before whisking, soak the prongs in warm water for about one minute to soften them. Add sifted matcha and water to your bowl, then whisk briskly in a back-and-forth "M" motion from the wrist until a fine foam forms, about 15 to 20 seconds. Lift the whisk gently from the center.
Care: Rinse under warm running water right after use, without soap. Gently shake off the excess water and rest it tines down on a chasen holder until fully dry, which keeps its graceful shape and prevents mold. Never store it in the plastic case it arrives in, and keep it away from direct sunlight.
